Our Take On Modesty

DIF’s stance on Modesty, as stated in our mission statement is:  ”Modesty is a Matter of the Heart”.

It is our belief the desire to dress modestly must come from the heart. A person can daily be told to dress modestly, forced to change their outfit before they leave the house and given rule after rule, but the desire must be a “want to” not a “have to” or it will not last.

However, this can leave women wondering; how do you know if something is modest or not? What is the gage? Modesty isn’t black and white. A line isn’t drawn in the sand for many reasons. One, women have different body shapes and two; in our opinion, different occasions call for different dress. For example, you wouldn’t wear a swimming suit to church.

Modesty is a matter of the heart because you must have the desire and ultimately, each woman has to be her own gage. A heart focused on the LORD and informed about the importance of modesty will be a successful gage. This is an area where it is important and wise to seek advice.  DIF offers modesty tips and has created video interviews of young men sharing their opinions on modesty. The more we understand how the way we dress effects people in our lives, the better equipped we are to honor them and the Lord with the way we dress.

My personal standards could be considered strict by some and too immodest by others. When getting dressed I always try to remember God intended my body to be seen by my husband and only my husband. Less skin is always better, but this doesn’t mean I only wear turtle necks.
